What is a Mental Health Treatment Plan (and how do I get one?)

How can a mental health treatment plan help me?

If you are struggling with your mental health, having a mental health treatment plan can help cover the cost of seeing a Geelong Psychologist..

At Daybreak Psychology, you can access a Medicare rebate for your session. This means that you will receive a refund for part of the session back into the bank account you have registered with Medicare. You can find out what the current rebate amount is on our fees and rebates page.

Instructions on how to update your bank account with Medicare can be found on the Services Australia website.

How many sessions can I get?

A mental health treatment plan can help with the cost of 10 sessions in a calendar year.

These sessions are typically broken up into 6 + 4 sessions. After six sessions, your psychologist will ask you to return to your GP to get approval for another four sessions.

Don’t worry if this sounds confusing, your psychologist will explain the process and provide you with a reminder to see your GP after six sessions.

How can I get a Mental Health Treatment Plan?

If you want to get a mental health treatment plan, you need to visit your doctor.

When you make your appointment, make sure to book a longer appointment. Or say that you are interested in a mental health treatment plan. This way, you and your doctor will have enough time to discuss your mental health.

We have listed information to help your doctor write the referral on our Information for GP / Referrers page.

What Next?

Your doctor can email us a copy of your referral, however you may also email it to us or bring it to your first appointment.
